Where the church is

West of the Holy Monastery of Agios Dimitrios, at a distance of 100 meters, there are the ruins of the Temple of Agia Sophia.

Dimensions

The Temple had dimensions of 8 X 6 meters and a height (in some places) from 0.50 m to 1.50 m.

Legend has it that the Temple sank when the city fell to prevent it from falling into the hands of the infidels. The inhabitants believe that it may have been destroyed when the Castle was conquered or sunk when the ground subsided due to the many rains that may have fallen one Winter.

The Church of Agia Sophia is also mentioned by Eze in 1858 who visited Grizano “A little higher and inside the ruined castle there is a church called Agia Sophia”.
