The Primary School of Faneromeni was founded in 1893 by a decision of the Greek State published in Gazette No. 36 issue A 19-2-1893 p. 168.
The above gazette shows for the first time the establishment of a grammar school with the name Kourbalis without excluding the operation of a grammar school in the previous years as well.
According to two very old documents (unfortunately unsigned and undated), which were found in the school archive and are mostly based on oral testimonies and according to the school’s official books, Faneromeni Primary School was founded in the year 1898 by Hellinikon State, with the name “Kourbali Municipal School”, which it maintained until 1955. From January 1956, it was renamed Faneromeni Primary School.
Before 1898, a school operated unofficially in the narthex of the church. The “Kourbali Elementary School” was initially used as a brick-built church teaching building.
In the year 1932, a single-story stone classroom was erected in the center of the village on a plot of land granted by the Ministry of Agriculture, with expenses from the school fund through state aid and contributions from the residents of the community. In the year 1938, a second room similar to the first was added. In 1964, the construction of a third hall began, which was completed in the summer of 1966.
Initially the Primary School operated as a one-class school. In the year 1935 the school was promoted to 2/class From the school year 1960-1961 to the school year 1965-1966, it operated as a three-seater. From the school year 1966-1967 to the school year 1968-1969 it operated as a four-seater. From the school year 1969-1970 to the school year 1969-1970 it operated as a three-seater. From the school year 1970-1971 to the school year 2007-2008 it operated as a two-seater. In 2008 it was downgraded to a single seater and since the 2008-2009 school year it has been operating as a single seater.
In 2010 the school was renovated and since September 2010 it welcomes its students again. Today the school has three classrooms, one of which houses the Faneromeni Kindergarten.
The reduction of the student population in recent decades is of interest as shown in the table below.
